Website Mission

It is the mission of this website to assist in the development of learning environments that promote Career and Technical Education as well as academic excellence. To provide examples of effective 21st century teaching and learning strategies in order to assist in the development of more engaged and motivated classrooms. To provide multimedia Podcasts and articles to facilitate an understanding of how to implement technology and multimedia in classrooms regardless of content area. To encourage independent and personalized learning by teaching students to enjoy the process of learning. To assist teachers in becoming facilitators of learning.

In the Classroom

This section highlights some of the multimedia projects and resources that are used to engage students during lessons. It also introduces readers to technology, how it can be effectively implemented, and the potential benefits that utilizing available technology resources can have on students. In addition, it describes the various educational strategies that can be implemented in the classroom in order to increase student achievement and success.

iPad Pilot Programs Prove Worthwhile

The launch of iPads as effective educational tools has spread quickly across the nation, as educational technology specialists are recognizing the potential benefits of using tablets in the classroom. Taking that a step further, many schools have chosen to implement a one-to-one program, providing each student with their own iPad to use in the classroom. A recent article by John Paczkowski indicates that “nearly 1,000 K-12 schools have an iPad one-to-one program.”

Characteristics of 21st Century Teachers: How Do the Students Learn?

In order to be successful in a 21st Century classroom, the teacher must understand that the role of the "instructor" is changing. This is in part due to the nature in which the students learn. Students have the resources to obtain information from a variety of sources 24/7. For them, a single resource is often not enough, and not necessarily the most effective when that resource is considered to be an outmoded method. In addition, students are often used to learning information within the context of solving a problem or learning a new skill. For this reason, teachers need to provide contextual learning environments while infusing project based learning to engage students in the classroom.

Teachers Take on Technology

Project Tomorrow, an educational nonprofit organization focused on technology, recently published a survey report based on feedback from educators across the nation. The Speak Up National Research Project annually polls K-12 students, educators and parents regarding the role of technology in learning. This 2010 report, The New 3 E’s of Education: Enabled, Engaged and Empowered - How Today’s Educators are Advancing a New Vision for Teaching and Learning, explores the impact of three key trends in education: mobile learning, online and blended learning and digital content.

Characteristics of 21st Century Teachers: What Happens In the Classroom?

Educators and students alike are tired of hearing about the standards and standardized testing. At times this has altered the level of creativity a teacher can bring to his or her classroom. As teachers, we know the reality of the situation and understand the severity of the impact if we do not meet the standards. However, all that is needed is to creatively infuse the standards and not make the standards the reason "why" you teach what you do.

Teachers Are Students Too

In a world where technology is rapidly changing and infiltrating every facet of our lives, the classroom is no exception. Many teachers find themselves struggling to keep up with the technology while at the same time trying to incorporate it into their curriculum in order to engage the students. Often, the teachers themselves need to embrace the role of the students, learning the new technologies and how to effectively utilize them in the classroom.

Characteristics of 21st Century Teachers: How Do I Create the Environment?

I often relate my classroom to the term “organized chaos.” There is often no real lecture to listen to, and you will often find my students spread throughout the classroom, in the hallways, and in other teachers’ classrooms. However, in order to provide the students this type of environment, there needs to be a lot of structure.
