Website Mission

It is the mission of this website to assist in the development of learning environments that promote Career and Technical Education as well as academic excellence. To provide examples of effective 21st century teaching and learning strategies in order to assist in the development of more engaged and motivated classrooms. To provide multimedia Podcasts and articles to facilitate an understanding of how to implement technology and multimedia in classrooms regardless of content area. To encourage independent and personalized learning by teaching students to enjoy the process of learning. To assist teachers in becoming facilitators of learning.

In the Classroom

This section highlights some of the multimedia projects and resources that are used to engage students during lessons. It also introduces readers to technology, how it can be effectively implemented, and the potential benefits that utilizing available technology resources can have on students. In addition, it describes the various educational strategies that can be implemented in the classroom in order to increase student achievement and success.

Until a few years ago, I didn’t see the value of being on Twitter. It wasn’t until this year that I truly understood how powerful it is as a professional development tool. In my opinion, Twitter is like having a global teacher’s lounge where you can share information and ideas, as well as question the most innovative teachers in the world.

How Many Assignments Should I Give?

Educators can easily become overwhelmed by the amount of paperwork, homework and class assignments that accumulates throughout the course of a school year. Then there are the tests that need to be scored, papers that have to be read, assignments that have to be graded, not to mention the assessments that have to be conducted. Where do we possibly find the time to educate our students? That is why it is critical to only choose assignments that have a purpose, whether it be to teach a valuable skill like responsibility, or to assess a student's skill level.

Restorative Practices

Restorative Practices, a strategy that has its roots in the criminal justice system, has been effectively implemented in classrooms by trained educators who believe in holding students accountable for their actions. It focuses more on helping students recognize and determine how to change a misbehavior, without resorting to traditional punishments like suspension. It can be used to address a specific incident, diffuse a particular situation, or simply to get students thinking about their behavior and how to improve it. Often, both teachers and students find that they end up building positive relationships with other students, since restorative practices involves sharing feelings, expressing ideas, and learning about each other.

Having that type of connection with a teacher makes a student want to go above and beyond the expectations of the class.
