iPad Pilot Programs Prove Worthwhile
The launch of iPads as effective educational tools has spread quickly across the nation, as educational technology specialists are recognizing the potential benefits of using tablets in the classroom. Taking that a step further, many schools have chosen to implement a one-to-one program, providing each student with their own iPad to use in the classroom. A recent article by John Paczkowski indicates that “nearly 1,000 K-12 schools have an iPad one-to-one program.”
In addition, Apple reports that "currently every state in the U.S. has a K-12 iPad education pilot program or deployment in place. And more than 2,300 K-12 school districts in the United States are running iPad programs for students or faculty, among them New York City and Chicago."
With the capability of downloading and storing various forms of educational content, the iPad is a device that may end up replacing traditional textbooks in the near future. It provides students with the ability to read articles, take notes, download books, watch videos and research information that will keep them engaged and motivated to learn. As we learn more about the positive effects of deploying iPads in the classroom, it is certainly worth considering the investment to equip our students with the tools and skills necessary to compete in the digital age.
